The story of two sisters in Christ who said "yes" when God whispered their assignment
Vessels Called to Kingdom Work
What started as two friends sharing their love for God's Word over coffee has blossomed into a movement that touches hearts across the nation. Alisia and Kori didn't set out to start a ministry—they simply wanted to create a space where authentic faith could flourish.
Their journey began in 2021 when they felt God calling them to host a small Bible study for friends. "We weren't theologians," they often say, "but we knew the One who is." What they lacked in formal training, they made up for in genuine love for Scripture and an authentic desire to see people grow in faith.
Today, their Tuesday night Bible studies have grown from a handful of friends in a living room to hundreds of participants joining online from across the country. But the heart remains the same: creating a space where everyone can come as they are and grow in God's love.
Kori and Alisia met during their freshman year at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. What started as dormmates quickly became a deep friendship rooted in shared faith and values. They discovered they both had hearts for God's Word and authentic Christian community.
Throughout their college years, their friendship deepened through late-night conversations about faith, studying Scripture together, and supporting each other through the challenges of young adulthood. They became each other's accountability partners and prayer warriors.
Kori and Alisia became roommates, and their shared living space became a sanctuary of faith. Their apartment was filled with prayer, worship, and deep discussions about God's calling on their lives. Friends began joining their informal Bible studies and prayer sessions.
During a season of prayer and seeking God's direction for their lives, both Kori and Alisia felt the Lord calling them to start something more intentional. "What if we hosted a real Bible study?" they asked each other. The vision for kingdom building work began to take shape.
In 2022, Backing The Word officially launched. What started as two college friends studying Scripture together evolved into a ministry with a clear mission: creating authentic community where believers can grow in faith and serve others. Their kingdom building work had begun.
As word spread about their authentic approach to Bible study, friends across the country wanted to join. They launched online Tuesday night studies, transforming their local ministry into a national movement of faith and fellowship.
Added community outreach, faith-based travel experiences, and expanded to serve hundreds weekly. Through blessing bag ministry, supporting local communities, and creating spaces for authentic Christian fellowship, BTW became a movement of love in action.
From college dormmates to kingdom building partners, Kori and Alisia continue to lead with humility, authenticity, and unwavering commitment to God's Word. Their friendship, rooted in faith from their UMHB days, has blossomed into a ministry touching lives across the nation.
"I've always been the one asking 'but why?' about everything in Scripture. I love digging deep into God's Word and helping others discover the treasures hidden in its pages."
Alisia brings her analytical mind and passionate heart to every study, helping participants understand not just what the Bible says, but why it matters for their daily lives.
"My heart is for people to know they're not alone in their faith journey. We all need community, and I want BTW to be that safe space where vulnerability meets victory."
Kori creates the warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes everyone feel like family. Her gift for pastoral care ensures no one walks away from a study feeling unheard or uncared for.
"We're not perfect, but we're obedient. We're not theologians, but we know the One who is. Come as you are, family. God's got something good in store."
